With the Echuca Moama Southern 80 having made a big splash this past weekend, it was a delight to find one of our Mawsons families an enthusiastic part of the ‘Biggest water ski race in the world’. The famous race is in its 49th year and the Reid family have been watching the event for a large chunk of that time period.
Brian Reid is one of Mawsons truck drivers, and pal Lawrence Mathers our Drills and Excavators operator. They have driven and observed in the southern 80 since 2009 when Brian’s children Matthew and Kyanne skied in their first Barrie Beehag, a part of the Southern 80 weekend events. Three years later Brian’s other twin daughter, Mikayla, decided she would like to join in too, making the Southern 80 a real family affair.
This year the girls skied in the social events on Saturday, and competed in the Under16 Girls event on Sunday, behind aptly named boat ‘Stealth’, towed by Lawrence. Brian was observer in the 70 MPH Social race on Saturday, and netted a second place in the boat “Outraged”.
Mawsons would like to congratulate Brian and Lawrence for their involvement in this iconic regional event, and wish twin girls Kyanne and Mikayla every future success in their passion !
Thankyou to Lawrence Mathers for the photographs and information for this article.
