Wangaratta Co Store and Multi Story Carpark

by Kesenya Baker | Apr 22, 2014

Mawsons are pleased to be involved in the construction of the Wangaratta Co Store, supplying concrete for this exciting development. Here are some photographs of the project so far, and  details on the vision from the Rural City of Wangaratta website.

"This key retail revitalisation in the heart of Wangaratta’s Central Business District will bring the Co-Store site up to 9,256 square meters of retail and commercial space, in addition to the current cinema and bowling centre complex. As part of the development a 3 level multi-deck car park containing 365 car spaces will be constructed.

This is outstanding news, not only for the Wangaratta community, but the broader regional community. This project will not only dramatically boost Wangaratta’s retail offer, but will fulfil projected parking needs in the CBD well into the future. It’s a game changer for Wangaratta.

Council worked closely with the developers to achieve an additional 145 car parking spaces, above what was required to fulfil the project’s parking obligations. The 145 spaces will be licensed to the Rural City of Wangaratta and therefore available for general parking in the CBD. This meets our projected car parking needs in the CBD out to 2030.

Director of Prudential Commercial Investments Pty Ltd, Mr James Scremin, said "the completed centre will set a trend for regional shopping centres by incorporating entertainment – in this case a four-screen cinema, 12-lane Bowling centre and indoor golf, with restaurants and retail shopping that includes both local and high profile national brands."

"We are also pleased to announce that Target Country will become our key anchor tenant, establishing a new format 2,855 square metre Target Country store that will provide another dynamic element of retail to Wangaratta.

Target District Manager Gordon Evans said "Target Australia can confirm that it will be bringing a Target Country to Wangaratta. The Target Country store will offer one of the country's largest ranges of Target's quality, stylish and value for money merchandise. The new store will also provide new employment opportunities for members of the local community."

"The Rural City of Wangaratta have been very proactive and helpful in bringing this development to fruition," said Mr Scremin. "Council's vision for the future of Wangaratta, and their efforts to bring this about, has been a strong motivating factor for the investment in the city," he said.

"We anticipate that over 300 people will work on the construction of the centre, providing a much needed stimulus to the construction sector. When complete, approximately 200 people will be employed - clearly demonstrating the economic benefit that this project will provide to the local community.

"The global retail landscape is changing and will continue to further evolve," said Mr Scremin. "Internet purchases are growing and this will continue. However, the developers and investors in the centre believe there will always be the need for communities to have places to gather, to enjoy entertainment and dining options in a vibrant environment, and to be able to see, touch and feel products they wish to buy at competitive prices. The people of Wangaratta will now have further enhanced options, and have them at a national standard." "
