A Fitting Memorial

by Kesenya Baker | Apr 20, 2015

With the 100th anniversary of ANZAC day fast approaching, it is timely that Mawsons has donated a granite stone from its Broken Hill Quarry to the Railwaytown RSL. Sunday 19 April saw this plaque unveiled at a well attended ceremony honouring the 44 men from Railwaytown (Broken Hill) who died in the Great War.  The tribute was first proposed in 1919, however, money for the project was short and the concept was shelved until 96 years later when the community collaborated to raise the funds.

The plaque is located at the West Football Club rooms at the corner of Gypsum and Wills Streets, Broken Hill.

Lest we forget.
