Media Release from Gannawarra Shire:
Gannawarra Shire Council, in partnership with Mawsons Concrete and Quarries, will soon commence work to stop further erosion of a section of the Gunbower Creek in the Cohuna township.
The creek bank between the Cohuna Town Bridge and the weir has deteriorated and is in need of remedial works to prevent further erosion.
Approximately 240 metres of creek bank will be reinforced with compacted clay and rock donated by Mawsons Concrete and Quarries.
A halogen light that illuminates the fountain will also be temporarily removed, and then replaced with a new energy efficient LED light.
Works will start early next week and are expected to be complete by August 7.
Mayor Neville Goulding said that during this period the car park near the Gateway to Gannawarra Centre would be partially closed, but residents would still be able to access the Garden Park walking path.
‘‘Works such as this are required periodically to ensure that the creek banks are strong enough to withhold current and future water flows,’’ he said. ‘‘They are important not only for the health of the Gunbower Creek, but to ensure that the Cohuna community can continue to enjoy a healthy and safe waterway for years to come.’’
