OUR WORKPLACE FIRST PRIORITY IS SAFETY

Safety at Mawsons

We are committed to providing a healthy and safe working environment for all employees, contractors, customers, visitors and the greater community.

We recognise our moral and legal responsibilities to ensure that our operations do not place any stakeholders at risk of injury, illness or loss through property damage.

Our people can rely on us. We have policies and procedures in place to ensure compliance with relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation and all its relevant regulations.

Our objectives are to:

  • Identify, assess and control risks and hazards within the workplace;

  • Comply with legislative requirements and current industry standards;

  • Provide information, instruction, training and supervision to employees, contractors, customers and visitors to ensure their safety;

  • Implement and maintain a WHS Management System;

  • Improve communication across the group regarding health and safety issues;

  • Provide for the consultation of all stakeholders in the formulation and implementation of health and safety procedures; and

  • Manage Mawsons’ Senior WHS Committee to the benefit of all stakeholders.

  • Mawsons employees receive proper training in manual work techniques and maintain certification in the safe operation of the machinery they use.

  • Hazardous materials are labelled and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available for chemicals used on-site.

  • Mawsons equipment is regularly inspected and properly maintained.

  • All people on-site are required to follow emergency procedures, including evacuation plans and to be aware of first-aid stations.

  • Everyone at Mawsons is required to help maintain clean and orderly work areas to prevent slips, trips, and falls.

  • Following site traffic management plans that regulate vehicle movement. Employees, contractors and visitors must remain within the designated walkways and crossing points.

  • Any work performed at heights requires proper training and the use of fall protection systems, such as guardrails, elevating work platforms, and harnesses.

  • Appropriate hearing protection must be used where there is potential exposure to prolonged excessive noise.

  • Dust suppression systems and respiratory protection are used to minimise the risk of inhalation of harmful particles.

  • Lock Out and Tag Out isolation procedures to prevent accidental start-ups are mandatory during equipment servicing and maintenance.

  • Safe lifting practices and mechanical aids to help avoid manual handling injuries. Proper work station and machine operator positioning, for example, seat adjustments, are critical in injury prevention.

  • Safety signs and warnings are clear, visible, and strategically placed throughout Mawsons sites. It is mandatory that everyone complies with them.

  • All incidents, hazards, and near-misses must be reported promptly to the site manager.

Safety Standards at Mawsons

The Bottom Line on Safety

All managers and supervisors are accountable for safety outcomes at their sites and in their areas of responsibility. This includes the maintenance, supervision and enforcement of Mawsons WHS Management System.

All employees are responsible for their own behaviour. Adherence to safe work practices is a condition of employment.

Mawsons ultimate objective is to eliminate all accidents that result in personal injury, occupational illness or damage to equipment, product and the environment.
