Project Update October 2026
Mawsons continues to progress environmental, technical and planning investigations for the proposed Blue Hills Quarry Project and remains committed to keeping the community informed as the project moves through the assessment process.
Environment Effects Statement (EES) – Project Documentation Submitted for Review
The first round of project documentation was submitted to the Technical Reference Group (TRG) on 2nd October 2026 for review. The review process enables government agencies and stakeholder organisations to provide early input on project investigations and assessment documentation before it is further developed.
This documentation includes project overview information describing the proposed development and its objectives, along with specialist assessment reports examining environmental and technical aspects of the project.
The TRG has a two-week review period to provide comments, identify any information gaps and recommend areas where further information or refinement may be beneficial. Feedback received through this process will be used to further improve the documentation as investigations and assessments continue.
For the Blue Hills Quarry Project, the TRG comprises representatives from relevant government agencies and stakeholder organisations who provide advice and feedback within their respective areas or expertise and responsibility. Members include:
Country Fire Authority (CFA)
Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) – Planning and Environment Assessment
Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) – Resources Victoria
Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) – State Planning Assessment
Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) – Transport
Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA Victoria)
Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DJAARA)
Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW)
Heritage Victoria
Mount Alexander Shire Council
North Central Catchment Management Authority (North Central CMA)
Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Investigations
Representatives from the Dja Dja Wurrung Aboriginal Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DJAARA) recently undertook site inspections and preliminary cultural heritage investigations within the project area. These surveys will be followed by a complex assessment for the next stage of investigation to further identify and document any Aboriginal cultural heritage values that may be present within the project area.
Bird Monitoring Activities
Local birdwatching groups have recently visited the Blue Hills site as part of their regular bird monitoring activities. These visits contribute to an improved understanding of bird species present within the project area and provide valuable observations of the site's ecological values.
Wheel Cactus Control
Controlling wheel cactus continues to be a priority at the site. Regular management activities are being carried out to reduce existing infestations and minimise the spread of this invasive weed.
To support these efforts, Mawsons staff have recently completed chemical handling training, allowing more weed control work to be undertaken on site. These initiatives reflect Mawsons’ ongoing commitment to protecting and managing the local environment responsibly.
Tarrangower Cactus Control Group Inc, 2026
Mawsons appreciates the continued interest and involvement of community members, stakeholders and local groups. Further project updates will be provided as assessment work progresses and additional information becomes available.
